कलाम के नाम से जाना जाता है, भारत के पूर्व
राष्ट्रपति, प्रसिद्ध वैज्ञानिक और अभियंता के
रूप में विख्यात हैं। इनका राष्ट्रपति कार्यकाल
25 जुलाई 2002 से 25 जुलाई 2007 तक
रहा। इन्हें मिसाइल मैन के नाम से भी जाना
जाता है। यह एक गैर राजनीतिक व्यक्ति रहे
है। विज्ञान की दुनिया में चमत्कारिक प्रदर्शन
के कारण ही राष्ट्रपति भवन के द्वार इनके लिए
स्वत: खुल गए। जो व्यक्ति किसी क्षेत्र विशेष
में सर्वश्रेष्ठ प्रदर्शन करता है, उसके लिए सब
सहज हो जाता है और कुछ भी दुर्लभ नहीं
रहता। अब्दुल कलाम इस उद्धरण का
प्रतिनिधित्व करते नज़र आते हैं। इन्होंने
विवाह नहीं किया है। इनकी जीवन गाथा
किसी रोचक उपन्यास के नायक की कहानी
से कम नहीं है। चमत्कारिक प्रतिभा के धनी
अब्दुल कलाम का व्यक्तित्व इतना उन्नत है कि
वह सभी धर्म, जाति एवं सम्प्रदायों के व्यक्ति
नज़र आते हैं। यह एक ऐसे स्वीकार्य भारतीय
हैं, जो सभी के लिए 'एक महान आदर्श' बन
चुके हैं। विज्ञान की दुनिया से देश का प्रथम
नागरिक बनना कपोल कल्पना मात्र नहीं है
क्योंकि यह एक जीवित प्रणेता की सत्यकथा
है।
जीवन परिचय :अब्दूल कलाम का पूरा
नाम 'डॉक्टर अवुल पाकिर जैनुल्लाब्दीन
अब्दुल कलाम' है। इनका जन्म 15 अक्टूबर
1931 को रामेश्वरम तमिलनाडु में हुआ। द्वीप
जैसा छोटा सा शहर प्राकृतिक छटा से भरपूर
था। शायद इसीलिए अब्दुल कलाम जी का
प्रकृति से बहुत जुड़ाव रहा है। रामेश्वरम का
प्राकृतिक सौन्दर्य समुद्र की निकटता के
कारण सदैव बहुत दर्शनीय रहा है। इनके पिता
'जैनुलाब्दीन' न तो ज़्यादा पढ़े-लिखे थे, न ही
पैसे वाले थे। वे नाविक थे, और नियम के
बहुत पक्के थे। इनके पिता मछुआरों को नाव
किराये पर दिया करते थे। इनके संबंध
रामेश्वरम के हिन्दू नेताओं तथा अध्यापकों के
साथ काफ़ी स्नेहपूर्ण थे। अब्दुल कलाम ने
अपनी आरंभिक शिक्षा जारी रखने के लिए
अख़बार वितरित करने का कार्य भी किया
था।
संयुक्त परिवार :अब्दुल कलाम संयुक्त
परिवार में रहते थे। परिवार की सदस्य संख्या
का अनुमान इस बात से लगाया जा सकता है
कि यह स्वयं पाँच भाई एवं पाँच बहन थे और
घर में तीन परिवार रहा करते थे। इनका कहना
था कि वह घर में तीन झूले (जिसमें बच्चों को
रखा और सुलाया जाता है) देखने के अभ्यस्त
थे। इनकी दादी माँ एवं माँ द्वारा ही पूरे परिवार
की परवरिश की जाती थी। घर के वातावरण
में प्रसन्नता और वेदना दोनों का वास था।
इनके घर में कितने लोग थे और इनकी मां
बहुत
लोगों का खाना बनाती थीं क्योंकि घर में
तीन भरे-पूरे परिवारों के साथ-साथ बाहर के
लोग भी हमारे साथ खाना खाते थे। इनके घर
में खुशियाँ भी थीं, तो मुश्किलें भी थी। अब्दुल
कलाम के जीवन पर इनके पिता का बहुत
प्रभाव रहा। वे भले ही पढ़े-लिखे नहीं थे,
लेकिन उनकी लगन और उनके दिए संस्कार
अब्दुल कलाम के बहुत काम आए। अब्दुल
कलाम के पिता चारों वक़्त की नमाज़ पढ़ते थे
और जीवन में एक सच्चे इंसान थे।
जीवन की एक घटना :अब्दुल कलाम
के जीवन की एक घटना है, कि यह भाई-बहनों
के साथ खाना खा रहे थे। इनके यहाँ चावल
खूब होता था, इसलिए खाने में वही दिया
जाता था, रोटियाँ कम मिलती थीं। जब इनकी
मां ने इनको रोटियाँ ज़्यादा दे दी, तो इनके
भाई ने एक बड़े सच का खुलासा किया। इनके
भाई ने अलग ले जाकर इनसे कहा कि मां के
लिए एक-भी रोटी नहीं बची और तुम्हें उन्होंने
ज़्यादा रोटियाँ दे दीं। वह बहुत कठिन समय
था और उनके भाई चाहते थे कि अब्दुल
कलाम ज़िम्मेदारी का व्यवहार करें। तब यह
अपने जज़्बातों पर काबू नहीं पा सके और
दौड़कर माँ के गले से जा लगे। उन दिनों
कलाम कक्षा पाँच के विद्यार्थी थे। इन्हें परिवार
में सबसे अधिक स्नेह प्राप्त हुआ क्योंकि यह
परिवार में सबसे छोटे थे। तब घरों में विद्युत
नहीं थी और केरोसिन तेल के दीपक जला
करते थे, जिनका समय रात्रि 7 से 9 तक
नियत था। लेकिन यह अपनी माता के
अतिरिक्त स्नेह के कारण पढ़ाई करने हेतु रात
के 11 बजे तक दीपक का उपयोग करते थे।
अब्दुल कलाम के जीवन में इनकी माता का
बहुत महत्त्वपूर्ण स्थान रहा है। इनकी माता ने
92 वर्ष की उम्र पाई। वह प्रेम, दया और स्नेह
की प्रतिमूर्ति थीं। उनका स्वभाव बेहद शालीन
था। इनकी माता पाँचों समय की नमाज़ अदा
करती थीं।
