1857 का भारतीय विद्रोह, जिसे प्रथम भारतीय स्वतंत्रता संग्राम के नाम से भी जाना जाता ब्रिटिश शासन के विरुद्ध एक सशस्त्र विद्रोह था। यह विद्रोह दो वर्षों तक भारत के विभिन्न क्षेत्रों में चला। इस विद्रोह का आरंभ छावनी क्षेत्रों में छोटी झड़पों और आगजनी से हुआ था और आगे चलकर इराने एक बड़ा रूप ले लिया। 29 मार्च, 1857 को बैरकपुर (पश्चिम बंगाल) में सैनिकों ने चर्बी चाले कारतूस का इस्तेमाल करने से मना कर दिया। एक सैनिक मंगल पांडे ने अपने सार्जेंट पर हमला कर उसकी हत्या कर दी। 8 अप्रैल 1857 को मंगल पांडे की फांसी दे दी गई। 34वीं देशी पैदल सेना रेजिमेंट को गंग कर दिया गया।

Revolt of 1857

The Indian Rebellion of 1857, also known as the First Indian War of Independence, was an armed uprising against British rule. The rebellion lasted for two years in different regions of India. The insurgency began with small clashes and arson in the cantonment areas and the Iranians later took a major turn. On March 29, 1857, the soldiers of Barrackpore (West Bengal) refused to use fat-chell cartridges. A soldier, Mangal Pandey, attacked his sergeant and killed him. Mangal Pandey was hanged on 8 April 1857.
